LEADERSHIP PROGRAM AND CENTER DIRECTOR POSITION

Partners is the only international organization designed to create sustainable national Centers which develop laws (mediation statutes), mechanisms (cooperative advocacy and consensus facilitation) , and consultancies for business, government, and civil society to address disputes and manage social change. Partners’ Centers apply negotiation, mediation, facilitation, cooperative advocacy (for activist civil society groups) and consensus facilitation, enabling stakeholders to work out agreements on complex policy, program, and resource issues, in four areas: Accountable Governance; Inclusive Communities (national minority groups); Sustainable Environment and Economic Development; and, Corporate-Community Engagement.

Search:  Partners is seeking a social entrepreneur Director for the “Partners for Sustainable Leadership” Program, supported by the General Electric Foundation, to establish a Center in Indonesia. The Director must be a native of Indonesia and have experience in and display a commitment and passion for promoting conflict management, collaborative processes and change management methodologies in Indonesia. The Director must also be capable of establishing an Indonesian non-profit organization and must have a background and experience in organizational development, fund-raising, financial management, staff hiring and supervision, and entrepreneurial skills to achieve organizational sustainability.

Under the “Partners for Sustainable Leadership” Program, Partners provides to the selected Leader and Center Director: A competitive stipend for two years; a month-long intensive training in Washington, D.C.; two-year mentoring program; access to Partners’ Centers’ experience and expertise; organizational development expertise; and, technical, fund-raising and marketing by Partners.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Attend Sustainable Leadership Training in Washington, D.C., February 2010;
  • Work with Partners’ D.C. office to build a new Center;
  • Provide overall leadership and management of the Center;
  • Take a leadership role in designing and implementing Center programs;
  • Actively promote Center-client relationships related to future contracts and grants;
  • Maintain strategic partnerships with funders and primary contractors;
  • Negotiate contracts and grants;
  • Conduct Indonesian country assessment for the purpose of developing programs and services;
  • Supervise the design and preparation of all proposals, grants and fees for service activities; and
  •  Work cooperatively with other Partners Centers.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • Exceptional leadership skills;
  • Social entrepreneurial background and performance;
  • A citizen of Indonesia with significant experience working in country. Preference will be given to persons with experience working with international donors.Entrepreneurial and pro-active orientation to fund-raising, project and Center development;
  • Demonstrated knowledge, competency, and track-record competency in one or more of Partners’ program areas (e.g. conflict resolution, civil society, good governance, and sustainable environments; and, corporate-community engagement);
  • Experience in designing projects and writing winning foundation and international- donor proposals;
  • A track record of creating and sustaining strategic partnerships and negotiating with prime contractors, corporations, and project partners;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, creative problem-solving and ethical management, capacity for cooperative leadership;
  • Excellence in reading, writing and speaking English as well as an ability to express complex ideas clearly;
  • Ability to analyze, organize, problem-solve, manage, and prioritize work.
Education
Master’s Degree or equivalent experience required.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be energetic, motivated, and entrepreneurial with the ability to develop her or his own Indonesian Center. S/he will be a person with a social entrepreneurial track record and skills, keen to develop a new national Center and programs, and innovative in engaging the experience, expertise, and human assets of Partners’ global network of 19 Centers and Partners for Democratic Change International. S/he will have an advanced degree ideally in or related to the field of change and conflict management, and at least 10 years of international experience managing programs, staff and clients, winning and delivering new business and clients, and developing national initiatives.
